About Erica

A native South Carolinian, Erica Chapin received her Bachelor of Science degree at the College of Charleston. She graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA.

Erica received her law degree from the University of South Carolina. She graduated cum laude in the top 10% of her law school class and was a member of the Order of the Coif, Order of the Wig and Robe, and Phi Delta Phi. She served as an editor on the ABA Real Property, Probate and Trust Journal, and received a CALI Award for Interviewing, Counseling, and Negotiating.

Mrs. Chapin received an LLM in Taxation from the University of Florida, where she concentrated her courses in the estate planning area. She served as an editor for the Florida Tax Review and received a Book Award for State and Local Taxation.

After law school, Erica worked as a law clerk for the Honorable J. Michael Baxley in the Fourth Judicial Circuit of South Carolina. Erica then worked as an insurance defense litigation attorney in Colorado and later served as a volunteer in the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic at Legal Services of Southern Piedmont in Charlotte, where she was honored by the Mecklenburg County Bar for her pro bono contributions, before returning to South Carolina. Mrs. Chapin has also taught a legal studies course as an adjunct professor.

Since 2012, Erica has practiced primarily in the areas of estate planning and probate administration.  She worked as an attorney at Pearlman & Pearlman, PC prior to opening her own firm.

Erica is active in the community. She is a Girl Scout leader, volunteers to serve meals at MUSC Children’s Hospital, and volunteers periodically with the children’s ministry at her church.
